How We Raise Our Puppies

Puppies (1).jpg

We are Siberian husky enthusiasts that strive to produce happy, healthy, well-rounded members of your family. Our dogs are first and foremost our family and live inside with us. We are a small hobby breeder and only have 1-2 litters a year. We always make sure parents are always healthy and sound prior to breeding and our breeding dogs are OFA eyes clear, have OFA hips rated “Good” and DNA tested through Embark. It’s very important that we produce the healthiest puppies we can. We believe that healthy puppies start with healthy parents.

Prior to breeding our moms are checked by our reproductive specialist to make sure they are healthy enough to have a litter. We do progesterone testing to pinpoint ovulation so we know the due date in which to expect puppies. This is extremely important as we know mom and puppies may be in trouble if the come early or late. At around 30 days post breeding we take Mom in for an ultrasound to confirm pregnancy and make sure mom and puppies are healthy and developing properly. Then around day 58 days we take mom in again for an x-ray. This is so we can get an estimate of how many puppies to expect and most importantly to make sure none of the puppies are too big for mom to whelp on her own. The last thing we want is for a puppy to be too large and get stuck, which could potentially be life threatening for mom and pups.

We begin taking and recording temperature twice daily about a week prior to whelping date. We will typically see a drop in temp about 24 hours prior to whelping. Once in labor we do not leave mom’s side and we are there for her to make sure everything progresses as normal. We are there to help dry puppies off as they come out and assist if needed. We record time born and birth weight. From birth we continue to weigh puppies twice a day for the first few weeks to ensure they are all gaining and mom is producing enough milk.

Puppies are born and raised indoors in a nursery designed for them. We start handling from the moment they are born and mom is always happy to share her puppies with us. Starting at 3 days old we start biosensor exercises with the puppies. Click this link for more information see https://trainingcanines.com/biosensor-training/. We also follow Puppy Culture protocols with each litter to ensure the have the best start in life. We also start puppies on potty training, crate trains and clicker training before they leave our home.

Each puppy is wormed at 2,4,6 and 8 weeks. They are also checked by our vet and given their first vaccine which is also administered by our vet. They will have microchipped placed with lifetime registration. We send each puppy home with a puppy pack, included in the puppy pack is a handmade fleece blanket that

smells like our home, mom and littermates. We found that it really help ease transition in to your home as it brings them comfort to have something familiar to lay on. We also include other things such as a bag of food the puppy as been eating, a couple toys, treats, their first collar and a small bowl they have been using in our home. We also send every puppy home with a free month of insurance with Trupanion.

I love taking pictures and post puppy pictures/videos almost every day so you will be able to watch your puppy grow from day one. If you are close enough we reserve Sundays as a visiting day for approved families that are on our waitlist. This is one of the most enjoyable things we do, as we love getting to know

the families just a little bit better and we love sharing the joy these little puppies bring. We start this at around 2 weeks old. We feel it’s important to visit with them so you can make the right choice in picking your new family member. A lot of breeders do not allow visits anymore but we feel it’s so important for proper socialization. We do utilize precautions such as taking off shoes prior to entering our home and hand washing before touching/holding the puppies.

We ask that families keep in touch with us and provide us with feedback on their puppy’s development and temperament as this helps us evaluate the quality of our breeding program. We offer lifetime breeder support and if the need ever comes up we will always take back a puppy/dog no matter the age.

We do have all perspective families complete our puppy questionnaire so we can get to know them a little better as our top priority is the well-being of all puppies that leave our home. We take up to 4 deposits prior to birth and puppy picks are made in order deposits are received. If you are interested in one of our puppies please fill out our application and we will be in touch with you.

If you have any other questions feel free to reach out to us by phone or email.
